A shocking incident has come to light from Chhattisgarh’s Dhamtari district, where around 35 students of a government middle school in Dahdaha village reportedly cut their wrists, creating panic in the school and surrounding area. The students involved belong to different classes, mainly from Class 6 to Class 8, according to local sources.

The incident is said to be nearly 20 days old, but it came into public notice only after parents became aware of the matter and raised it during a village panchayat meeting. Following the complaints, an administrative team reportedly visited the school and interacted with the students to understand what exactly had happened.

Initial observations by school authorities and local representatives suggest that the students may have influenced each other and engaged in the act after seeing their peers do the same. However, the exact reason behind the incident is still unclear, and officials have stated that a detailed investigation is underway.

The matter has also taken a political turn, with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) expressing strong concern over the incident. On Wednesday, ABVP members submitted a memorandum at the District Education Officer (DEO) office and demanded the formation of a special committee to probe the case thoroughly.

ABVP district coordinator Hitesh Ghritlahare stated that the case involving nearly 35 students from a government middle school in Dahdaha village under Kurud block is extremely serious. He emphasized that the issue is not just about self-harm but also raises questions about the safety and mental well-being of students within the school environment.

The organization warned that if strict action is not taken and a proper investigation is not conducted, it may launch a protest. ABVP has demanded that a dedicated committee be formed to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify any negligence.

Officials have also acknowledged that the incident raises serious concerns regarding student supervision, psychological health, and institutional responsibility. Authorities have assured that after the completion of the inquiry, appropriate action will be taken against anyone found responsible.

The case has triggered widespread concern among parents and the local community, highlighting the urgent need for better monitoring, counseling support, and awareness regarding students’ mental health and safety in schools.
