Anurag Kashyap’s crime drama Kennedy, starring Rahul Bhatt and Sunny Leone, has been cleared by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) with an ‘A’ certificate after several modifications ahead of its release on Zee5 on February 20.
As per reports, the censor board asked the makers to mute abusive words in dialogues and subtitles and modify certain sensitive references. The term “Donald Trump” was reportedly altered, while a dialogue referring to Dawood Ibrahim and a 1993 reference was replaced with a generic term. Additionally, a 14-second scene was removed, and anti-smoking disclaimers were mandated in all smoking scenes.
Following these changes, the film received its censor certificate, with a final runtime of 148 minutes and 54 seconds. Directed and written by Anurag Kashyap, Kennedy is a neo-noir crime drama that revolves around a presumed-dead ex-cop living under a fake identity and working as a covert hitman in a corrupt system.
The film had its international premiere at the Cannes Film Festival 2023 and was also screened at the Sydney Film Festival and MAMI Mumbai Film Festival before its OTT release.
