In a major relief for thousands of railway employees, the Railway Board has introduced a new ‘Model Selection Calendar’ to ensure timely and transparent departmental promotions across all zones and production units. The move aims to streamline the promotion process and eliminate long delays in departmental exams and selections.
According to official directives issued by Deputy Director Ajay Goyal, all zonal railways, including North Central Railway, have been instructed to complete promotion procedures within a fixed timeline. The board has emphasized that regular selection processes should now be completed within 45 to 60 days, while Limited Departmental Competitive Examinations (LDCE) must be concluded within approximately 90 days through Computer-Based Tests (CBT).
Under the new calendar system, specific promotion targets have been assigned month-wise for different departments, ensuring that final panels for each post are released within the scheduled month. This structured approach is expected to speed up administrative processes and allow multiple departmental exams to be conducted simultaneously, significantly saving time.
The annual framework covers key departments such as Civil Engineering, Electrical, Mechanical, S&T, Traffic, Commercial, and Medical. As per the plan, promotions for posts like Junior Engineer, Station Master, and Section Controller will be prioritized in the early months of the year, while mid and later months will focus on categories such as Track Machine staff, Goods Train Managers, and other technical cadres.
