A major fire broke out at a coaching centre located in the Maitrivanam Complex in Ameerpet, Hyderabad, on Friday (February 20), triggering panic among students and staff. The incident led to a large-scale rescue operation as thick smoke quickly spread from the lower floors to the upper levels of the building.
According to officials, around 80 to 90 students who were trapped on the fourth floor were safely rescued, and no casualties have been reported. Some students reportedly attempted to jump from windows in panic, but fire and police personnel intervened in time and carried out a coordinated evacuation.
The fire control room received a distress call at around 10:59 AM, after which multiple fire tenders rushed to the spot. Firefighters used stairways and balconies to evacuate the trapped students while emergency teams continued rescue operations until everyone was brought to safety.
Station Fire Officer P. Ramesh stated that several students were rescued through the staircase and balcony routes, while some had managed to exit the building before the arrival of the fire brigade. Authorities suspect a short circuit as the possible cause of the fire, though a detailed investigation is currently underway.
The fire has now been brought under control, and officials are assessing the extent of damage inside the coaching centre and the commercial complex.
